One of the incredible ironies of Christianity, of which there are many, is that it teaches people to believe they are aspiring to be like a god (i.e. Jesus) by the mere act of treating human beings like human beings, even though God (i.e. Jesus's father, like so many other gods throughout human history) have all required human sacrifice.
Hell, even the New Testament God 'the father,' apparently wanted, or at least accepted, the 'sacrificial' murder of his own son in payment for some "original sin' that is so veiled in ambiguity in the book of Genesis that no one can quite figure out what the "sin" actually was, other than that it constituted some form of "disobedience."
I just can't figure out what act of "disobedience" a child of mine would have to commit that I would be willing to accept, let alone require, a brutal act of murder - and of one of my other children no less! - in order to forgive it.
I just can't see myself saying "Well, you disobeyed me, but you murdered my beloved son, so I forgive you for it - sorta."
