We have created every "god" there is or ever was, at least any that can ever be conceived of by a human being anyway. The Christian God is the most recent version of this as an "ideal" projection of how the human form was "made in the image and likeness" of a wholly immaterial, infinite and eternal intelligence.
The real world versions of the "pagan" gods of our mythologies are now our corporations and financial institutions, which themselves are the children of the governmental "gods" that we created, dating all the way back to King David and before.
All of our systems reflect this willingness to submit to the yoke of one ruler or another. From the Pharaohs to the money changers, from monarchs to CEOs, from Belgium to DC to Rome, we build our temples and make them our gods.
